As 2015 comes to an end, I wanted to spotlight a few trends in music this year that made me take notice.
1. “Let’s collab bro…”
Collaborations and DJ Tag-Teams hit at all times. Obviously there are tons of politics when it comes to collaborations between two artists, but I have seen a lot of up-and-coming producers trying to work together to better both parties. It’s almost like some kind of alliance, in the hopes of gaining momentum together to rise to the top. Duos have taken 2015 by storm. Some examples are acts like JACK U, Green Velvet, b2b, Claude VonStroke, “Get Real” and Axwell & Ingrosso. By joining forces, these acts have established a huge demand and put themselves in a position of having the pick of the litter when it comes to shows.
2. Snap Chat is King
DJs are using snap chat more than ever. I think it’s a great platform to give a behind-the-scenes look at what you have going on both personally and musically. In the whole scheme of things, this business is relationship-based and Snap Chat gives you the opportunity to open up your daily lives to your fans.
3. Streaming
From Ultra to Coachella to EDC, streaming live video from a website was a great way for fans and festival goers around the world to experience a live music atmosphere from the comfort of the living room. In the near future, I could see major TV networks getting involved and making some kind of TV experience specials. Artists have also gotten involved with live streaming. Artists are more and more open to giving a live feed from their studio on what exactly goes down when they are making their music. It’s a great way to build a more personal relationship with the fans.
These are just a few things I noticed this past year and I’m looking forward to what 2016 will bring!
